Thorpe Farm serves up new padel courts

A Teesdale visitor attraction has expanded its leisure offering with the opening of two indoor padel courts, allowing players to enjoy the fast-growing sport throughout the year.

Thorpe Farm Centre has installed singles and doubles courts inside a converted barn, with facilities available to beginners and more experienced players.

Open daily from 7am to 10pm, the courts can be booked through the Playtomic app, with rackets provided free of charge and padel balls available from an on-site vending machine.

The refurbished building also includes a large seating and viewing area, allowing visitors to watch games in comfort.

Additional facilities include toilets, a shower and vending machines offering drinks and snacks.

Players can also make use of the nearby Courtyard Café, which is open daily from 9am to 5pm.

The investment broadens Thorpe Farm Centre’s existing offering while bringing an all-weather Padel facility to Teesdale as the sport continues to grow in popularity.

Harvey Barkes, of Thorpe Farm Centre, said: “Padel, a mix of tennis and squash, is the world’s fastest growing sport.

“It’s fast and fun, and also incredibly sociable.

“We believe the facilities at Thorpe Farm Centre will make it a great place to play.

“Being inside a barn, you won’t be limited by the Teesdale weather, so you can come and play padel all year round.

“With rackets available to use at the courts, and balls available through a vending machine, there’s nothing to stop you giving padel a go.

“It’s suitable for anyone from about age five or six up, and designed to be really easy to pick up.

“Total beginners can be enjoying impressive rallies within ten minutes of picking up a racket.”
