Sweets company unwraps £3 million growth boost
A confectionery maker is feeling sweet after landing £3 million support to roll out expansion plans.
The Serious Sweet Company is set to bolster manufacturing operations and introduce new products across UK and overseas markets.
Bosses say the backing will give the fudge and toffee firm “greater flexibility as it focuses on organic growth… and develops new treats for customers”.
They add the support – from Skipton Business Finance – will allow the company to strengthen production at bases in Harrogate and Bridlington, in East Yorkshire, and boost existing supplies to UK supermarkets and exports across Europe, the US, Canada, Australia, Japan and the Middle East.
Emma Verity, finance director at The Serious Sweet Company, whose portfolio also includes marshmallows, honeycomb, nougat and nut brittles, said: “Skipton Business Finance offers more than funding.
“Their contacts and industry knowledge will support us as we think through our strategy and development, and we believe we’ve found a long-term partner that will support our growth.”
Matt Fannon, senior regional sales director (ABL) at Skipton Business Finance, added: “The Serious Sweet Company is a fantastic Yorkshire business with strong brands, international reach and exciting ambitions for the future.
“We’re proud to support another Yorkshire business as it enters its next phase of growth, and look forward to building a long-term partnership with the team.”
Clarion Solicitors advised on the agreement, with banking partner Ben Slack and paralegal Andrea Piponides supporting the deal through to completion.
