Accountancy firm adds up support for Leeds Mind

A Leeds accountancy and business advisory firm has raised more than £1600 for a local mental health charity.

Saffery, based at Wellington Place, selected Leeds Mind as its chosen charity, with colleagues organising activities including quizzes, bake sales, games, a football match and golf day.

Audit assistant Hannah Whitworth-Debney has helped spearhead the fundraising, which has also been designed to bring colleagues from across the firm’s departments together.

She said: “A sense of community and having a common goal within work is important to people’s wellbeing and morale, and that’s what these events have centred around.

“It’s been really nice to see people try things they might never normally do all whilst supporting Leeds Mind.”

Marie-Louise Robinson, corporate and events fundraiser at Leeds Mind, added: “We’re so grateful to everyone at Saffery in Leeds for choosing to support Leeds Mind as their local charity through Saffery's Helping Build Sustainable Futures social impact strategy.

“From an initial donation to fundraising activities including pub quizzes, a novelty jumper day, a football tournament, a bake sale and the recent golf day, the team has shown a real commitment to supporting mental health in our local community.

“Beyond fundraising, the team has also committed their time and skills to supporting our work.

“This includes volunteering at our events and plans to maintain the gardens at our Clarence House premises, helping to create a welcoming and calming space for the people who use our services.

“We’re hugely thankful for the enthusiasm, generosity and community spirit the team has shown throughout the partnership.

“Their support is helping us continue delivering vital services and making sure people across Leeds and West Yorkshire can access mental health support when they need it most.”

The Saffery team has supported a number of other local causes, including collections for Leeds North & West Foodbank and Smart Works Leeds, which provides interview clothing and coaching to women facing barriers to employment.

Colleagues have also supported Leeds Hospitals Charity and taken part in a litter-picking session around Wellington Place.

Saffery plans to continue developing its fundraising and volunteering programme, with further activities focused on community, connection and wellbeing planned over the coming months.

Chris Luckett, tax partner at Saffery’s Leeds office, added: “The fundraising has created an opportunity for colleagues at different levels and across different teams to work together all in aid of a fabulous local charity.

“People have been keen to get involved and we really appreciate everything Hannah has done to lead these fundraising initiatives.

“We were particularly pleased to have raised £650 at our recent Saffery Golf Day at Rudding Park in Harrogate, where 45 guests joined us for a great day, which also helped bolster the total we have raised for Mind so far this year.”
