Barratt supports junior rugby team on Ireland tour

A County Durham housebuilder has thrown its support behind a junior rugby team, helping players mark an overseas tour with new kits.

Barratt Homes has sponsored Darlington Mowden Park RFC’s under-11s team, providing funding for new kit for players and coaches ahead of their tour to Ireland.

Darlington Mowden Park RFC has been part of the local sporting community for more than 75 years, having been accepted into the Rugby Football Union in 1950.

Alongside its senior side, which competes in National League 2 North, the club supports grassroots rugby and has developed its facilities to provide additional space for community sport, events and other activities.

Laura Iveson, mini’s section chair at Darlington Mowden Park RFC, said: “We’re absolutely delighted and incredibly grateful to Barratt Homes for supporting our under 11s team on their recent tour.

“The sponsorship made a huge impact on the team, providing the players and coaches with a new kit for tour.

“It’s so important for housebuilders to support and invest in the communities where families live.

“Supporting local sports club helps bring people together, encourages young people to stay active, build their confidence and team working skills, and creates opportunities that benefit the whole community.

“Grassroots rugby relies on support from local businesses, and this sponsorship gives our players access to opportunities and experiences they’ll remember for years to come.

“We’ve got a busy season ahead with plenty of fixtures, festivals and tournaments to look forward to.

“The players are excited to continue building on their experiences from the tour and continue developing together as a team.”

Barratt’s sponsorship comes through its nearby Old Durham Gate development on Bent House Lane, on the outskirts of Durham city centre.

The development features a range of three, four and five-bedroom homes, with access to local amenities, schools and transport links across the North East.

Steven Ball, sales director at Barratt Homes North East, said: “We’re thrilled to sponsor the under 11s team for their Ireland tour.

“As a housebuilder, we understand that clubs such as Darlington Mowden Park RFC have a huge role to play in the development and vitality of a community. We are dedicated to investing in the communities in which we build.

“We hope that the sponsorship continues to enable the team to develop and the club to thrive.”
