New sandwich shop taking Wirral by storm

A new independent sandwich shop is making its mark on the Wirral food scene, with queues forming outside as customers flock to sample its internationally inspired creations.

Orlo Sandwiches opened on Allport Lane in Bromborough last month, offering a menu of generously filled deli classics, inventive specials, speciality coffee, matcha and sweet treats.

The concept grew out of nearby Mexican restaurant Pina Loca, where chef Sean had developed a reputation among colleagues for his homemade sandwiches.

After impressing the team with his creations, restaurant owner Babul suggested turning the idea into a standalone business.

The result is Orlo, which aims to elevate the traditional sandwich through carefully selected ingredients, unusual flavour combinations and inspiration from cuisines around the world.

Among its signature offerings is a Vietnamese-inspired bánh mì, featuring Asian pork, pâté, spicy mayonnaise, pickled vegetables, cucumber, chillies and coriander.

The Cubano combines pulled pork, mortadella, honey mustard mayonnaise, Emmental cheese, pickles and hispi cabbage slaw, while a vegetarian Peach Ricotta sandwich brings together honey-grilled peach, ricotta, mozzarella, pesto, red onion, rocket and balsamic vinegar.

Alongside established favourites, the shop also offers changing specials, giving customers opportunities to try new combinations.

The emphasis on distinctive flavours extends beyond the sandwich counter, with Orlo developing a drinks menu designed to complement its food offering.

Its speciality coffee is supplied by independent Cheshire business Elephant Roastery, which roasts its beans at its Neston premises.

Customers can also choose from speciality teas and ceremonial-grade matcha, with combinations including candied lychee, mango and coconut, peach and rhubarb, blueberry and strawberry, and ginger and cinnamon.

An assortment of unusual soft drinks, crisps and cakes adds to the offering, positioning Orlo as both a lunchtime destination and a stop for coffee and refreshments.

Orlo aims to offer something different from traditional takeaway sandwiches, combining familiar ingredients with more adventurous flavours.

Early signs have been encouraging, with queues reportedly stretching outside the premises since its launch.

Customers have also been travelling from further afield to sample the menu, suggesting the new venture is already attracting attention beyond Bromborough.

The opening adds another independent food business to the Wirral hospitality scene, building on the success of the team's existing restaurant across the road.

What began as sandwiches prepared for colleagues has developed into a dedicated operation, with the founders hoping to establish Orlo as a destination for quality lunchtime food.

Located at 21A Allport Lane, Bromborough, Orlo Sandwiches is open Monday to Saturday, from 10am until 4pm, offering takeaway and delivery services.
