P+HS Architects appoints board director

Architecture practice P+HS Architects, headquartered in Stokesley in North Yorkshire, has strengthened its board with the appointment of Katie Shepherd as shareholding director.

Katie, who leads the practice’s residential work, joined its Newcastle studio in 2017 before becoming an associate in 2018 and associate director in 2022.

With a background in architecture and a master’s degree in urban design, she brings extensive experience in residential development, masterplanning and regeneration.

She has led multidisciplinary teams on major housing projects, including Homes England-designated sites, and is currently overseeing work on the flagship Clasper Village development and a regeneration scheme in Horden.

Katie has also played a key role in expanding the practice’s social housing portfolio, with a focus on design quality and community needs.

Beyond her work at P+HS, she sits on the board of Women in Social Housing and the Yorkshire Design Review Panel, and has previously received a Mentor of the Year award at the Women in Construction Awards.

She will continue to lead the residential team from Newcastle alongside her new board responsibilities.

Katie said: “I’m incredibly proud to become a director and shareholder at P+HS.

“Since joining the practice in 2017, it has been hugely rewarding to be part of the growth of our Newcastle studio and to develop our residential work across the practice.

“What has always mattered to me is creating places that genuinely work for the people who live in them, while supporting the talented people around me to develop and succeed.

“Becoming a shareholder gives me the opportunity to play an even greater role in shaping the future of P+HS, and I’m really excited about what comes next.”

Katie’s promotion forms part of P+HS Architects’ strategy to develop leadership internally and support future growth.

James Almond, managing director at P+HS Architects, which has offices in Stokesley, Newcastle, Leeds and Manchester, added: “Katie’s appointment is thoroughly deserved and reflects the huge contribution she has made to P+HS since joining us.

“She combines excellent design and sector knowledge with a real ability to bring people together, develop teams and build strong relationships with our clients.

“Katie has been instrumental in growing our residential work and has become an important voice within the wider industry.

“As we look to the next stage of P+HS’ growth, it is hugely important that we continue to strengthen our leadership team with people who understand our business, share our ambitions and care deeply about the work we do and the people we do it with.

“I’m delighted to welcome Katie as a director and shareholder and very much look forward to what she will bring to the board.”
