Fenwick set to turn up the volume on local talent

Six North East musicians will take to the stage at a Newcastle department store later this month as the city prepares to host this year’s Mercury Prize.

Fenwick Newcastle will host a free live music event on Thursday, October 22, ahead of the awards ceremony at the Utilita Arena.

The Northumberland Street store will become an official Mercury Prize fan zone, showcasing regional talent through a series of intimate live lounge-style performances.

Taking part are Manny 234, Jenna Cole, So Anne-So, Vin Kay, Pearly Gates and alt-pop duo Talk Like Tigers.

Each artist will perform a live set following a short interview with presenter Alice Patterson, giving audiences an opportunity to discover new music and meet the performers.

Running from noon until 6pm, the event will take place at the newly opened Full Circle Brewery pub on the store’s first floor, next to Colmans restaurant.

Two artists will perform every two hours, with guests able to enjoy refreshments and light bites while soaking up the atmosphere ahead of the evening’s awards ceremony.

Although admission is free, visitors are encouraged to reserve a table through Fenwick’s website to secure their place.

Leo Fenwick, strategic partnerships director at Fenwick, said: “The return of the Mercury Prize is a brilliant moment for Newcastle and another opportunity to shine a spotlight on the creativity that exists across the North East.

“At Fenwick, we’re proud to use our platform to champion emerging local artists, giving them the opportunity to share their music with new audiences.

“Supporting the community around us is incredibly important, and we’re delighted to play our part in bringing the excitement of the Mercury Prize into the heart of the city.”

The event forms part of the wider Mercury Prize Fringe programme, celebrating local musical talent alongside one of the UK’s leading music awards.
