Plans unveiled for trio of Sheffield schemes

Plans are being brought forward for more than 130 new homes across three sites in Sheffield as part of a wider regeneration programme aimed at increasing housing choice across the city.

Sheffield Housing Company (SHC), a partnership between Sheffield City Council, Keepmoat and Great Places Housing Group, is preparing to submit planning applications for 133 properties in Manor, Parson Cross and Arbourthorne.

The proposals form the first phase of five developments planned over the next four years, which could deliver more than 300 homes on former housing land.

The largest scheme would provide 74 homes at Deerlands Avenue in Parson Cross, alongside 32 properties near Wulfric Road in Manor and 27 homes at Daresbury Drive in Arbourthorne.

Across the three sites, plans include a mix of one, two, three and four-bedroom properties, ranging from affordable rented and shared ownership homes to houses available for private sale.

All properties are being designed towards Future Homes Standard requirements, with a focus on improving energy efficiency and reducing household energy consumption.

Steve Birch, director at SHC, said: “SHC’s main purpose and objective is to bring vacant former housing land back into use, delivering high-quality homes in areas where there is an identified need and demand.

“This is the driver again with these three key sites – land which has stood empty since demolitions around the turn of the century and now has the opportunity to provide new homes for hundreds of families in Sheffield.

“The environment also sits at the heart of the developments’ layouts – homes built to high energy performance standards, with distinctive kerb appeal and off-street private parking, benefitting from improved public open spaces with new planting, as well as development of new habitat and biodiversity areas within the sites contributing to ecological value in the wider city.

“In this way, SHC is leading neighbourhood regeneration and development activity in these strong existing communities.”

The partnership has already delivered more than 1700 homes across Sheffield since its formation in 2011.

Councillor Douglas Johnson, chair of the housing policy committee at Sheffield City Council, added: “The range of much-needed housing continues to grow across Sheffield, and we are delighted to see this happening.

“This partnership means more housebuilding and will lead to more houses to be bought and rented.

“We want higher numbers of good quality, spacious homes for all tenures - which are fit for the future and which home owners and tenants can be proud to call home. “Partnership work is getting these built and this will only benefit residents across the city.”
