Engineering firm launches new aerospace business

A Somerset engineering company has strengthened its manufacturing capabilities following an acquisition that has led to the launch of a new sister business.

Bramley Precision Aerospace Ltd has purchased the assets, goodwill and intellectual property of SFM Technology Ltd, establishing Bramley Aerospace alongside the group’s existing Bramley Engineering operation.

The new company will operate from an established manufacturing facility in Martock, retaining an experienced workforce and specialist machinery serving the aerospace, defence and wider engineering sectors.

Under the new structure, the site will operate through two specialist brands: Bramley Aerospace, focused on advanced engineering and manufacturing, and Bramley Harvesting, which will continue its longstanding fruit harvesting machinery activities.

Originally established as Somerset Fruit Machinery in 1985, the Martock operation brings more than 40 years of experience in engineering and manufacturing.

Its capabilities span precision CNC machining, laser and waterjet cutting, fabrication, prototyping, welding and assembly.

Bosses say the acquisition will provide customers across aerospace, defence, utilities, rail, transport, civil engineering and general manufacturing with access to a broader range of services, from bespoke components and replacement parts to complete manufacturing projects.

Graham Bramley, managing director, said: “Bramley Engineering has always been about finding practical solutions to difficult engineering problems.

“Bramley Aerospace gives us the opportunity to build on that approach in a much broader manufacturing environment, bringing together experienced people, specialist machinery and a wide range of capabilities.”

Founded in 1979, Bramley Engineering specialises in lifting engineering, with the new sister company creating opportunities to combine its established expertise with additional manufacturing capabilities.

Emma Bramley, account director, added: “This is an exciting development for the Bramley businesses.

“We have built long-standing relationships by being approachable, flexible and focused on finding the right solution for each customer.

“Bramley Aerospace gives us another way to apply those values and support customers with a much wider range of engineering and manufacturing requirements.”
