Housing association bolsters 'landmark' estate

A housing association is adding its support to a “landmark” development.

Believe Housing is set to deliver 45 properties at Lambton Park, near Chester-le-Street, in County Durham.

Bosses say the homes will “help more people access a sought-after new community”.

The affordable rent properties will sit within the wider development of the Lambton Estate, which is the historic seat of the Earls of Durham.

Delivered alongside Theakston Land and Adderstone Living, the homes will be owned and managed by Believe Housing once complete and add to a wider estate of about 400 properties.

Tom Winter, assistant director of development at Seaham-based Believe Housing, said: “These homes will be let at below market rent and help meet housing demand, while giving more people the opportunity to be part of a distinctive and well-connected new community.

“Developments like this increase housing choice, support mixed and inclusive communities, and help us reinvest in homes, services and communities across the region.”

The affordable homes – which will include air source heat pumps and electric vehicle charging points – are being delivered through a Section 106 agreement.

Lambton Park is a multi-phase development within the historic Lambton Estate, which is being brought forward through a partnership between the Lambton Estate and Theakston.

Samantha Marlow, Theakston Land director, said: “We are delighted to be bringing forward these units with Believe Housing with the same quality, setting and attention to detail found across the wider development.”

Stephen McCoy, Adderstone Living chief executive, added: “Lambton Park is a really special place.

“Every part of the estate is being brought to life with care, and these 45 homes are no exception.”
