Blyth Tall Ship welcomes families aboard

Families are being invited to climb aboard a piece of Northumberland’s maritime heritage during a free half-term event packed with activities and entertainment.

Blyth Tall Ship will open its doors on Thursday, October 29, offering visitors the chance to explore the vessel and its heritage workshop while discovering more about the town’s shipbuilding history.

The open day will begin at 10am with an appearance from Blyth Spartans players, who are supporting a raffle offering two hospitality tickets for a match during the 2026/27 season.

Activities will include guided tours, arts and crafts, science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) sessions, storytelling and a children's samba workshop.

Visitors can also enjoy live music from Blyth Valley Samba, a Mouse Hunt and Rubbings Trail, an archive exhibition and opportunities to take photographs aboard the ship.

A raffle and tombola will run throughout the day, with refreshments available to purchase.

Organisers say the event forms part of the charity’s ongoing efforts to celebrate Blyth’s maritime heritage, introduce younger generations to its shipbuilding traditions and strengthen connections between the community and the town's seafaring past.

Siobhan Sargeant, chief executive of Blyth Tall Ship, said: “Our open day is a great opportunity for local families to come along, have some fun and discover what we are all about.

“We want people to be able to explore the Tall Ship and our heritage workshop, but also to see that there is plenty going on here for children and families.

“We’re delighted that Blyth Spartans players and Blyth Valley Sambe will be joining us to open the event, and we’re looking forward to welcoming everyone on October 29.”

The open day takes place at Blyth Tall Ship, Quayside, South Harbour, with free admission and parking.
