Family-run survey firm maps out growth plans
A family-run surveying firm is plotting team expansion after passing a financial milestone.
Gridmark Survey is set to recruit an operations manager.
Bosses Chris and Abbey Mooney say the move – which follows a college trainee placement venture – will help the company develop a strategy for fresh growth.
The blueprint comes after the 16-staff firm, based in Castle Eden, near Peterlee, East Durham, saw turnover tick above the £1 million mark.
Founded 13 years ago, the company provides services including land and building surveys, civil engineering, earthworks, underground utilities mapping and drone operations.
It also recently teamed up with Hartlepool College to offer trainee placements.
Chris said: “My career had taken me across the UK, working on major civil engineering and construction projects.
“Drawing on the experience and professional relationships I built along the way, I decided to establish my business back home in the North East.
“Then, by chance, the surveying company Abbey was working for was bought out and the survey services side of the business she managed was unlikely to be retained.
“So, we thought it was the right time for us to join forces.”
He added: “A big part of our success has been recruiting at the right times; we’ve got a great team of people who are as passionate about our growth as we are.
“The next steps are to bring in an experienced operations manager, who can work directly with Abbey and I.
“They will take some of the pressure off and give Abbey the chance to develop our business strategy.
“It’s an exciting time.”
