Lumo forecasts bright Pride Radio partnership
A North East radio station has secured a new sponsorship deal with a rail operator as the pair strengthen their ongoing partnership.
Pride Radio has welcomed Newcastle-headquartered Lumo as its new weather sponsor, with the train company supporting weather updates for listeners across the UK.
The agreement builds on Lumo’s backing of several Pride events this year, including Newcastle Pride, where it donated £1000 to help the station broadcast live.
Earlier this year, Lumo also unveiled a redesigned Pride train featuring the logos of LGBTQ+ organisations including Pride Radio, OUT North East, Edinburgh Pride and Glasgow’s Pride.
The fully electric operator connects destinations including Newcastle, Edinburgh, Glasgow and London through its East Coast services, alongside a newer West Coast route serving communities including Stirling, Carlisle and Preston.
Richard Salkeld, director of communications and partnerships at Lumo, said: “While we can’t promise sunshine every day, we can promise that we will always continue to champion inclusivity and the LGBTQ+ community.
“We’re very excited to be onboard with Pride Radio as their new weather sponsor as we further develop our partnership with the station and their dedicated team.
“2026 has been a landmark year for Lumo’s support for Pride, with the launch of a new Pride train and support for more organisations than ever.
“Being a proud supporter of the LGBTQ+ community is incredibly important to us and something we’ll continue to do throughout 2027.
“We believe that every Lumo colleague and customer deserves a place to confidently be themselves.
“They will always find that when travelling with us.”
Pride Radio broadcasts on FM, DAB and online, as well as through the Pride World Media app, reaching listeners in 127 countries.
These include 38 countries where being LGBT+ is illegal and seven where it can carry the death penalty.
Ben Lloyd, commercial manager at Pride Radio, added: “This is yet another example of the special relationship we’ve developed with Lumo, a company that truly understands what Pride is all about and how to support the work we do.
“I can’t wait to hear Lumo shine on our weather bulletins every hour.
“It’s the perfect way for their customers to check whether it’s shorts weather or time for a big coat before they head off to catch their train.”
