Breedon reopens Grimsby asphalt plant
A building materials supplier has reopened its asphalt plant in Grimsby following significant investment to increase production capacity and strengthen local supply.
Breedon Group has completed an extensive upgrade of the facility, replacing its previous equipment with a modern asphalt plant relocated from elsewhere within the business.
The investment has increased production capacity to up to 240 tonnes per hour, improving reliability and helping the company meet growing customer demand.
Mike Sciascia, area director – Midlands at Breedon Group, said: “The reopening of our Grimsby asphalt plant is an important step forward for our customers in the area.
“This investment means we can better meet their needs and keep pace with local growing demand.
“Given the importance of this location, with limited alternative supply along this stretch of the coastline, it is vital that we have a site here that can consistently deliver for local projects.”
Located on the Lincolnshire coast, the plant plays an important role in supplying asphalt across the region, particularly during periods of peak demand.
The project involved several local contractors, including Louth-based GBM Demolition, Scunthorpe’s BH Construction, Newark-based SES Engineering and Brigg's ARC Electrical.
As part of the improvements, Breedon has also installed two new 45-tonne storage bins, allowing asphalt materials to be mixed and stored for use when required.
The additional storage capacity will also support the future introduction of more specialist products, further strengthening the plant's offering to customers.
Mike added: “As well as increasing capacity, the new plant gives us greater flexibility in how we operate.
“The additional storage also supports the development of more specialist products, helping us evolve our offering to meet customer needs.”
