Egis appoints energy director
Global engineering and consultancy firm Egis has appointed Mark Docherty as energy director for the UK and Ireland as it expands its operations across the sector.
Based in Edinburgh, Mark brings 38 years’ experience in the energy industry, spanning renewable energy, electricity networks and major infrastructure projects.
He joins from Arcadis, where he served as global offshore wind practice lead and partner, alongside his role as UK sector leader for networks and energy.
Mark has also held senior leadership positions at Turner & Townsend, SSE and Scottish Power.
In his new role, he will oversee the growth of Egis’ energy services across the UK and Ireland, with a particular focus on electricity grids and renewable energy.
His responsibilities will include expanding the firm's specialist teams and supporting clients navigating electrification, digitalisation, energy security and the transition towards cleaner energy systems.
Mark said: “The energy sector is undergoing one of the most significant transformations in its history.
“As we navigate the challenges of energy security, increasing electrification, and digitisation of society, we have a unique opportunity to shape a more sustainable, resilient and connected energy system to serve our communities.
“I’m excited by this opportunity to build on Egis’ strong foundations in grid and renewable energy while further expanding our capabilities to support the evolving needs of our sector and our clients.”
Mark’s appointment comes amid growing demand for grid infrastructure and renewable energy expertise as governments and network operators across the UK and Ireland increase their focus on energy security.
Joanne Moran, sustainable resources director, UK & Ireland, added: “Energy is an important part of our business in the UK and Ireland, and Mark’s appointment gives us the leadership to accelerate its growth.
“His experience across offshore wind, networks and major infrastructure programmes will strengthen the support we offer our clients, while his strong track record of building teams and securing new business will be central to our plans.”
