Pilates entrepreneur celebrates national award

A North East fitness entrepreneur is celebrating national recognition after winning gold at a prestigious business awards ceremony.

Nicci Rowlands, founder of PilatEASE CIC, won the Health & Beauty category at the Best Businesswomen Awards 2026, held in Daventry.

The accolade follows the business being named Reformer Studio of the Year – North East 2026.

Built around its ‘Nee Nonsense Pilates’ philosophy, PilatEASE operates six studios in Consett, Denton, Morpeth, Ryton, Seaham and Whitley Bay, offering accessible classes for people of different ages and abilities.

Alongside its studios, PilatEASE Training School has helped graduates establish more than 50 women-led businesses across the region.

Judges praised Nicci’s achievements, saying: “Her remarkable growth trajectory and distinct community approach have solidified her reputation in the fitness industry.”

They also recognised the benefits of PilatEASE becoming a community interest company.

Nicci said: “I’m absolutely over the moon!

“When I started PilatEASE, I just wanted to make Pilates something everybody could enjoy, without the intimidation or nonsense.

“To now have six studios, a thriving Training School and such an incredible community is something I’m hugely proud of.

“Winning Gold at a national awards ceremony, alongside our Reformer Studio of the Year recognition, is just amazing!

“But what means the most is the difference we're making to people’s lives and the opportunities we’re creating for others.

“None of this would be possible without our brilliant team and community.

“This award really is for all of us!”

Debbie Gilbert, founder and organiser of the Best Businesswomen Awards, added: “Behind every winning business is a woman on a mission who has taken risks, solved problems and worked hard to make her vision a reality.

“These awards recognise what those women have achieved and the difference their work makes to customers, communities and the people they employ.

“Our judges look for evidence of achievement.

“Receiving an award is a significant endorsement of the business each winner has built.”

The award comes ahead of PilatEASE LIVE, taking place at Newcastle’s Grand Hotel Gosforth Park on November 14, featuring classes, workshops and activities for Pilates enthusiasts and wellness professionals.
