Contractor to deliver 895 homes at Red Bank
A construction firm has secured £225 million worth of contracts to deliver nearly 900 new homes as part of a major regeneration project transforming an area of Manchester.
HG Construction has been appointed by developer FEC to build four residential buildings across two plots at Red Bank, a new neighbourhood within the wider Victoria North regeneration project, north of the city centre.
The contracts cover 895 homes across plots NT02 and NT03, forming part of plans to transform the area around Dantzic Street, close to Manchester Victoria station.
At NT02, HG Construction will deliver a 34-storey building containing 316 homes, marking FEC’s first build-to-rent development.
A further 579 properties will be built across three buildings at NT03, named Falcon, Kingfisher and Midrise.
Work on NT02 is expected to begin immediately, with completion scheduled for 2029, while construction at NT03 is planned to start in early 2027, subject to Building Safety Regulator approval.
The appointment follows FEC securing planning permission in August 2023 for 1551 homes across NT02, NT03 and NT04.
Officials say the latest phase will support the continued transformation of Red Bank, which is being developed around a ‘Wild Urbanism’ concept focused on green spaces, biodiversity and active travel.
Investment from Homes England’s Housing Infrastructure Fund has already supported infrastructure and enabling works across the neighbourhood, including improvements completed this summer by Manchester City Council and BAM.
Anthony Payne, operations director at FEC, said: “With HG Construction on board we’re ready to deliver the exciting next phase of Red Bank.
“Following significant investment in infrastructure and public realm, the neighbourhood is really taking shape, with new homes, green spaces and the next phases of development now coming forward.
“Residents of the four new buildings that HG Construction is set to deliver will enjoy outstanding amenities and green space in a neighbourhood benefiting from significant investment and just a few minutes’ walk from the city centre.”
Designed by Hawkins\Brown, with landscaping by Open and S+G, the development forms part of FEC’s wider ambitions to create a greener, better-connected neighbourhood.
Adam Quinn, chief executive of HG Construction, added: “We are delighted to have been appointed by FEC to deliver this next phase of Red Bank, supporting the wider Victoria North vision and bringing new life to this important part of Manchester.
“Our in-house self-delivery capabilities, including offsite bathroom and utility pods, allow us to mobilise efficiently while maintaining greater control over programme execution, quality and safety from the outset.
“We look forward to working with FEC to deliver high-quality homes and help create a thriving new neighbourhood.”
