The North East Satellite Applications Centre of Excellence are delighted to announce the return of the North East Space Conference.

This year, it is titled New Frontier.

Workshops:

Space Value Chain

An introductory workshop for businesses who would like to gain an overview of how the space sector is segmented and where those value chains lie.

International Collaboration

A workshop on how best to build collaboration consortia with international partners for space projects. These are usually funded by space agencies around the world.

Confirmed Speakers:

Stuart Martin - CEO of the Satellite Applications Catapult

Stuart He joined the Catapult in January 2013 from Logica (now part of CGI) where he was Business Director for Space and Satellite Communications for nearly seven years. Stuart is a former vice-chair of UK Space, the British trade association representing the Space industry, and council member of Eurospace – its European equivalent. He also sits on the UK Space Leadership Council, the top-level cross-industry, academia and government stakeholder group responsible for overseeing and implementing the UK Space Innovation and Growth Strategy.

Kathie Bowden

Kathie leads on Skills for the UK Space Agency, working with partners across the sector, in industry, academia and government, through her leadership of the People, Skills and Culture Workstream for the National Space Partnership. She has an Earth observation background and has worked in industry, academia and now government for over 40 years. The reach of space (and its data) is so broad that it covers areas far beyond launching high tech pieces of kit, influencing all of our daily lives. She is passionate about ensuring that the space sector is welcoming and truly inclusive.

Paul Febvre - Chief Technology Officer at the Satellite Applications Catapult

Paul is responsible for establishing a future vision for the sector and directing the technology strategy for the Catapult. He leads a small team of solutions architects and technologists that work across the Catapult to provide industry support in the creation and realisation of technologically innovative solutions to real world challenges.

Mark Lambert

President of Kratos Communication Ltd, the UK-based satellite communications business of Kratos, which provides integrated ground systems using both Kratos and third party technologies.

Mark has been working in the satellite industry for over 20 years, with responsibilities that have spanned marketing; business development and business management in the areas of sub-system products and system engineering. Prior to working for Kratos, he worked for several technology consultancies and product organisations, developing high performance communication and processing solutions for Commercial and Defence markets.

Nik Smith - Regional Director UK & Europe at Lockheed Martin Space

Nik is the Lockheed Martin Space UK Regional Director for UK and Europe, overseeing the company’s activity in region and leading on strategy and business growth.

Nik joined Lockheed Martin Space in 2015, taking a position in the Military Space division. Prior to that he had served for 16 years in the Royal Air Force fulfilling a range of roles in space operations, information technology, information policy, acquisition, cyber and C4ISR capability. His last post before joining Lockheed Martin was as a member of the British Defence Staff in the British Embassy in Washington DC, supporting the bilateral US-UK military relationship related to C4ISR, Cyber and Space.
