Bus campaign to 'stop brain drain' hits region's streets

A mobile careers bus which encourages young people to consider jobs and training opportunities in the North East hits the streets today. The nerd summer tour campaign, with the message ‘the North East Really Delivers’, is touring the region on a converted double-decker bus, jam-packed with information about jobs and training courses that young people can do in the North East. The first stop today at Alnwick will see the nerd summer tour teamed joined by employers from across Northumberland who will assist in careers ‘surgeries’ on board. Alnwick is the first of five stops that the bus will make across the region during July and August. Employers across the North East are being encouraged to get involved to demonstrate their support for this initiative to stem the brain drain of young people leaving the North East of England. The next stop is at Durham on Friday 28th July, followed by Stockton on Friday 4th August, Newcastle on Friday 11th August and finally Sunderland on Thursday 24th August. To join the nerd summer tour team at one of the stops to talk to young people about opportunities in your organisation, offer prizes or giveaways for the goody bags, or literature for the bus, sign up online at www.nerd-world.co.uk/tour or call Sophie or Dan on 0191 261 1333. The campaign is being run by culture change programme Aspire, which is working with partners to raise young people’s awareness of the full range of job and career opportunities available to them in the North East.
