Measuring the Med

Before you pack your swimsuit and head off to the sea this summer, you may want to check out the water temperature. The ESA’s Medspiration heat map clocks the water temperature of all 2 965 500 square kilometres of the Mediterranean. An updated map of the sea surface temperature is generated every day. In addition to ensuring you plunge into warm water, knowledge of SST is important for weather/ocean forecasting and is increasingly seen as a key indicator of climate change. More information can be found at the ESA site: www.esa.int/esaEO/SEMZ0BL8IOE_planet_0.html.
