Regional launch for consumer complaint service
A new telephone and internet service which provides practical advice to help consumers resolve disputes is being launched in the North East today. Consumer Direct North East’s 18 highly trained advisers can help callers with questions on anything from buying on credit and doorstep selling to using guarantees and spotting scams.The new Consumer Direct helpline, based in Redcar, is the latest addition to the Consumer Direct network which now comprises ten regional operations in England, Wales and Scotland. A further centre in the West Midlands will be launched later this year. Jeff Bell, Head of North East Trading Standards Association (NETSA) said: “’Trading Standards welcomes the introduction of our partner service Consumer Direct, whose trained advisers save thousands of callers time, money and unnecessary stress every day. To date, Consumer Direct has advised over one million callers on a wide variety of subjects including faulty goods, poor workmanship, warranty disputes, holidays from hell, mobile phone contracts and many other consumer issues. “Trading Standards and the other partners that back up the Consumer Direct service look forward to putting the increased intelligence we receive to good use.“Consumer Direct is available on 08454 04 05 06 or online at www.consumerdirect.gov.uk
