Summer driving aid
A summer driving leaflet has been produced by The Highways Agency to help create smoother journeys. The pocket-sized guide is packed with information for drivers, including an overview of major roadworks on the Agency’s network, and advice for drivers to take regular breaks and watch out for roadworkers and their vehicles when leaving or entering roadworks. During 2005, five workers were killed and 12 seriously injured in the course of their work on Highways Agency roads, making it the worst year since 1999. The leaflet also includes a light-hearted quiz of interesting things to look out for when travelling by road, which may stop the familiar cry of ‘are we there yet?’ Copies of Summer Driving 2006 are available from the Highways Agency Information Line on 08457 50 40 30 or email ha_info@highways.gov.uk, quoting reference HA61/06. Real-time traffic information is available from the Highways Agency 24-hour voice activated telephone service on 08700 660 115. (Calls from BT landlines to 0870 numbers will cost no more than 8p per minute; mobile calls usually cost more).
