Arts week to showcase creative youths

South Tyneside Council are preparing for their 12th annual Youth Arts Week which is set to feature various innovative art forms and showcase the area’s young talent.

Shows featuring singing, dancing and drama from a variety of schools, youth groups and individuals, and will be staged throughout the week at the Customs House in South Shields. The Council are calling for creative youngsters to take part in the programme of events which will run from Monday November 6 until Friday November 10.

Councillor Jim Foreman, Lead Member Children and Young People, said: “The event gives us a great opportunity to showcase young talent from across the Borough, and there will be a diverse assortment of entertainment to suit a range of tastes. It also contributes to the national ‘Every Child Matters’ agenda, particularly the goal for young people to gain enjoyment from their involvement in positive activities, as well as recognition for their achievements. I would urge any individuals or groups who are interested in performing to come forward.”

Last year’s event saw performances given by over 800 young people from across the Borough.
