Making business look easy
Some of you may know this story already as I’ve mentioned it before. I toured with a group of dancers recently and overheard the chat in the bar after one of the shows. A fan was enthusing to one of the dancers, saying “You must be soooo fit! To keep going like that, for hours at a time. Wow!”. The fan was enthused and giving a huge compliment - one which was well deserved, I should add.
The dancer, however, was gutted. Absolutely gutted.
Why? Because he’d let everyone down by allowing the fact that it was hard work to show. What should have happened was that he made it look easy, so that the fan saw only the beauty of the dance itself, not the techniques behind it.
Business presentations are like that.
If it looks like you’re working hard, you’ve not worked hard enough.
Practice, practice and practice some more. Next time I’ll talk about some practice techniques (including how to avoid over-practice!)
