Delays warning for North East airports

People hoping to fly from airports in the North East of England are being warned to expect delays due to increased security. Armed police patrols have been increased at both Newcastle and Durham Tees Valley airports in response to Saturday’s terror attack in Glasgow. Flights in and out of both airports were operating as normal on Monday. However, passengers are being advised to arrive earlier than normal to check in for flights. Northumbria Police said there was no “specific intelligence” to suggest Newcastle Airport or any other landmarks in the region were targets for terrorist attacks.

A spokesman said: “Additional resources were deployed throughout the force area on Saturday night and will continue to be over the coming days. The public can be reassured that we have sufficient specialist officers on duty to ensure public safety.”

Durham Tees Valley Airport has stated it is operating ‘business as usual’ however passengers are being advised to allow plenty of time to pass through the Airport. Passengers are being asked to remain vigilant at all times and to report anything suspicious to the police.
