Project set to clear the way for regeneration in Blyth
Work is set to start on the demolition of buildings around Blyth Quayside in preparation for a regeneration project. One NorthEast is overseeing and funding the demolition of the buildings, which forms part of a series of schemes to transform the town.
Jeremy Sherlock, Director of SENNTRi (the South East Northumberland and North Tyneside Regeneration initiative), said: “We have an ambitious vision for the future of the town. This is a timely opportunity for the town to reinvigorate its economic, social and environmental performance and attract new sustainable development and investment.”
Ed Rowley, One NorthEast Acting Director of Regeneration, said: “This work will help further improve Blyth as a place to live, visit and do business. “Blyth Docks are unrecognisable to what they were ten years ago and the ongoing redevelopment work makes them an attractive option for inward investment and opens the town up to new markets and opportunities.”
Alison Hesselberth, Business Development Manager for Blyth Valley Borough Council added: “Our aim is to continue to build upon the existing strengths and natural assets of the town, provided by its coast and riverside location, to provide an excellent quality town centre, linked to a lively and welcoming quayside.”
Work is due to start on 1 October and is expected to take around four months to complete. In total the area to be redeveloped is approximately 200,000 square feet.
