Mere Mortals smoke out the competition
A Newcastle-based media company have invested £80,000 in new post-production equipment, a technology first for the region that could see it attract broadcast, film and video industry clients countrywide. Mere Mortals recently took delivery of the Autodesk Smoke system, a high-end online editing facility that reduces editing timescales and allows sophisticated video and film effects to be created in real time, and is the first one of its kind to be based in the North East.
Steve Walmsley, Mere Mortals managing director said: “This is the first time a system with the capabilities of Smoke has been available in the North East, and the investment puts us at the front of high-end post production facilities.
“In addition to attracting work from clients in the thriving film and advertising industry here in the region, it also give us the capability to attract a substantial amount of business from outside the North East. Big budget productions filmed here in Newcastle have traditionally sent their editing work South because the facilities just weren’t available here.”
Dave McPhee, head of post production, said: “The choice for creatives has been either to use standard editing tools and services, or to travel to Manchester, Leeds or London to use better equipped editing suites.
“The technical capabilities of Smoke, with its real-time, mixed-resolution interactivity for all types of creative editorial work, offers film and post-production clients everything they need right here on their doorstep and will allow them to compete with rivals around the UK.”
