Unsuccessful twist world record attempt to try again next year
A failed world record attempt has left the participants promising to twist again next year, probably so they can say ‘like we did it last summer, only better’.
Around 1,336 people danced to Chubby Checker at the Minehead Butlin’s beach in Somerset, only to be beaten by another attempt in Harrogate.
The event was to raise money for Somerset Breakthrough Breast Cancer - but the record attempt was beaten by two schools, who managed to twirl together 1,691 people.
Organiser and chair of the charity Christine Pepper said: “It was disappointing that we didn’t get the numbers that we needed but it was fun and we raised awareness and people made a lot of donations.
“We’ll definitely be back next year to try again.”
