North East firms take part in marketing masterclass
Leading figures from the world of marketing were in the region last week to offer advice and share the secrets to their own success at a conference designed to help North East businesses gain a competitive edge.
Marketing: the art of brought together regional and national marketing experts along with more than 200 businesses.
Among the speakers were Robert Senior, UK chief executive of the Saatchi & Saatchi and Fallon (SSF Group); Tim Smit, co-founder and chief executive of Cornwall’s the Eden Project; brand specialist Harry Drnec; and Chris Lenton, current chairman of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM).
The conference, organised by Business Link, involved a number of interactive workshops, keynote sessions and panel discussions designed to provide delegates with an insight into the most effective marketing techniques and trends to help them strengthen existing relationships and target new markets.
Alastair MacColl, chief executive of Business Link in the North East, said: “The conference aimed to provide businesses in the region with a wealth of knowledge and expertise to help them overcome the impact of the economic downturn and achieve long-term success through effective marketing.
“It’s fantastic that we have been able to bring together some of the most influential figures from the industry to provide North East businesses with practical advice and an exclusive insight into their own success.” Robert Senior told delegates that creativity shouldn’t suffer because of the economic climate.
He said: “Creativity is not dependant on budget, it’s good ideas that attract interest. The key to creativity is to outsmart the competition, not outspend them. We have a more creative platforms than any other generation before so it’s important we make the most of them.”
