Sharing the secrets of success
An event in the North East has seen some of the region’s most innovative entrepreneurs share secrets of their international success.
The Secret, a workshop which looked at how world trade can be achieved on a shoestring budget, was held as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week.
The event, held at the Sage Gateshead music centre, featured demonstrations and films to give a snapshot of the average day of a small business juggling the demands of an international audience.
Speakers included Claire Mitchell of men’s cosmetics company astonmitchell, based in Bowes, near Barnard Castle, which has amassed a global following.
One of its most high-profile customers is celebrity make-up artist Michelle Probst, whose clients include President Barack Obama.
Others were Claire Bromley, who runs Claire International, in Barnard Castle, a knitwear and trend-forecasting studio, and Free N Easy Saddles, which has become a global phenomenon from a tiny village in the Pennines.
Louise Kempton, head of region with Enterprise UK, which alongside UK Trade and Investment and Regional Language Network North-East sponsored the event, said: “From backstreet bedrooms to remote villages in the Pennines, North East entrepreneurs are effectively creating global audiences by using their creativity, ingenuity and passion.
“Events such as The Secret help inspire people to take control through being entrepreneurial and collectively will have a long term positive impact on people in the North East.
It’s our enterprising people that will help drive economic recovery.“
