Frosty reception at Gateshead Quays
As festive preparations start to pick up a pace, why not get your Christmas shopping started at the fabulous Frost Fair?
This weekend, Performance Square, slotted snuggly between the Millennium Bridge, the Sage and the BALTIC, will become the venue for the Frost Fair. This two-day event is the ideal destination for families or anyone looking to pick up for a few unique Christmas gifts.
The Newcastle Craft Mafia will be on-site, sharing their talent for creating homemade treats and trinkets. Other artisan stalls will be selling ceramics, stained glass, jewellery, textiles and many more luxury goods. Visitors can also stock up on seasonal delicacies including chocolates and cheeses, organic meats and pâtés and mouth-watering muffins and cupcakes.
Bjorn the Polar Bear will be making a return visit to the Sage with Los Kaos Theatre Company. This animated, life-size creature will tell his stories of Nordic Life and the real-life threats to his species’ existence. Kids will also be pleased to learn that Santa will be on-hand too. Residing inside a specially created grotto, the jolly bearded fellow will be receiving Christmas lists with his helpful team of elves and face-painters.
The Frost Fair promises to provide a magical start to festive celebrations 2009 so wrap up warm, grab that Christmas wish list and head to Gateshead.
The Frost Fair, Sat 28 – Sun 29 Nov (FREE) 11am – 5pm (Sat), 11am – 3pm (Sun), Performance Square, Gateshead Quays. Santa will be at the Sage every weekend until Christmas.
