Real Radio swap turntables for hot plates in ‘the Real Food Fight’
Presenters at Real Radio are swapping the turntables for the hot plates after accepting a challenge from one of Newcastle’s longest established restaurants to find the best chef in ‘The Real Food Fight.’
The Fisherman’s Lodge in Jesmond threw down the gauntlet to Real Radio hosts Craig Beck, Kelly Scott, Jonathan Morrell, Lisa Shaw, and Ben Weston, to find out who has the best culinary skills and who is the best dinner party host.
Every night last week the presenters took turns holding dinner parties in their own homes, cooking for each other and marking each meal to determine the eventual winner.
Head chef and co-owner of the Fisherman’s Lodge, Alan O’Kane said: “I have been to each presenter’s dinner party and revealed my scores but would like to return their hospitality with a challenge and invite them to take over my kitchen for one night and become real chefs. I am giving the Real Radio presenters ten days to become master chefs and then take over the Fisherman’s Lodge. The listeners can come down and judge how good they are.”
The presenters will be undergoing training from visiting suppliers to source the freshest local ingredients, to skills in bread making with advice from the talented Fisherman’s Lodge Artisan baker.
Real Radio’s Morrell in the Morning host, Jonathan Morrell, who won ‘The Real Food Fight,’ said: “I’m quite shocked! It was a draw on points with Lisa Shaw and Alan, our super chef, said it came down to the trifle. Part of it contained lemon curd which he said he loved!
“I take that as a real vote of confidence coming from him, as he’s worked in some of the top kitchens in the UK including the Savoy.”
