Mob takes over empty shop for Christmas cheer
A new online design company started by North East MA graduates is stepping out of the online world and into a physical shop.
Design Mob, which aims to promote young regional designers online through a web-based “shop window” for their work, helping them reach commercial clients, is now setting up shop into a retail space this December to further promote their designers’ work.
A series of pop-up shops is being established by Middlesbrough Council as part of plans to revive the town centre. The shops will appear this weekend, and Design Mob will take its place on Newport Road today from 10am.
Shoppers will have the opportunity to buy Design Mob’s products, including jewellery, accessories, prints, photographs and fashion pieces.
Olivia Monaghan, 23, founder of Design Mob said: “This is a great opportunity for a young business such as ours, but even better for designers. This will give each designer and artist taking part a chance to showcase their work as well as the town benefiting from a vibrant art and design scene.”
Design Mob also plans to use the space in the new year for a longer period.
The empty-shop project across Middlesbrough is also accommodating a range of other creative businesses in January 2010 including locations for the selling of work through exhibitions, gigs, film screenings and workshops.
