Restructure brings fresh drive to transport business
An expanding transport business is hoping that its new restructuring will bring greater independence and direction to its operations.
The Nicholson’s Group has recently been set up as a parent company to warehouse and distribution businesses in Billingham and Doncaster.
The Group, which employs 50 staff, will comprise Nicholson’s Transport Ltd; Nicholson’s Doncaster Ltd; storage firm Box Clever; and a new venture to be launched in the new year.
David Nicholson, chairman of the Nicholson’s Group, said: “The restructure has been in planning for the past two years but we have decided to bring it forward from next year to respond to current market conditions.
“The aim is to make each business independent and responsible for its own decisions and driving its own profits but in keeping with the Nicholson’s Group’s values which will extend to any new enterprises we develop in the future.”
This year, Nicholson’s transport businesses increased turnover to £3.8million after significantly growing market share despite difficult trading conditions within the haulage industry.
Mr Nicholson, who founded his first transport business in 1989, said the restructure aimed to build on 2009’s solid performance by increasing sales and turnover across each business by at least 10%
He added: “We brought forward the restructure by six months because the transport sector has been deflated by lower rates which have become the norm for many within the industry.
“If we are going to meet the challenging targets we have set ourselves then we need to have drive, energy and focus and there was no need to wait to do that.”
