Conferences team shortlisted for award
A specialist team charged with bringing major conferences to Tyneside has been shortlisted for a major industry award.
NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau has been named as a finalist in the 2010 Meetings and Incentive Travel (M&IT) Industry Awards.
The M&IT Industry Awards, the oldest established awards programme in the meetings industry, recognise and reward excellence and are the result of voting by the readers of the specialist conference and meetings magazine; Meetings and Incentive Travel.
Winners of the gold, silver and bronze awards will be revealed at the gala presentation dinner on the evening of Monday 22 February at the Novotel London West, attended by more than 600 industry professionals. The other three finalists challenging for the top prizes in the ‘Best UK Convention Bureau’ category are: Conference Torquay; Glasgow City Marketing Bureau and Yorkshire South Tourism.
Jessica Roberts, head of business tourism at NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau, said: “This is great news both as a confidence builder for our dedicated, hard-working team, but also because it shows how supportive our clients, venues and members have been voting for us and we’re extremely grateful for their backing.
“Getting this far is a real triumph in itself and the recognition from our customers and clients feels like an award in its own right, but of course the anticipation ahead of this ceremony and announcement is tremendously exciting too.”
The final results are revealed on the eve of International Confex 2010, the major international tradeshow which attracts 10,000 plus visitors, where NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau is exhibiting with eight regional stand partners – the highest ever number of partners in its nine years at the show.
