Advancements in electric cars will benefit the North East, says MEP

AS the North East gears up towards playing an important role in the production of electric vehicles, one of the region’s MEPs is taking things one step further by pushing for a European electro-mobility strategy.

Nissan’s Leaf will be built on Wearside in 2013 and North East MEP Fiona Hall believes the North East must propel the advancement of electro-mobility in Europe further, if the North East is to be benefit in the long term.

She said: “Pushing the advance of electro-mobility in Europe will greatly benefit the North East.

“It is important for the region to make use of and push efforts at the European level to promote and develop the electro-mobility sector.

“Rolling out electric vehicles across Europe will help regional economic growth and job creation in the North East.”
