Materials technology firm teams with academia

Staffordshire based materials technology consultancy Ceram has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with CRANN, the Centre for Research on Adaptive Nanostructures and Nanodevices, in Dublin.

The MoU recognises that the two organisations have complementary expertise in the field of material sciences, and will benefit them with new industrial and commercial opportunities.

Having already worked with Professor Ruth Cameron at Cambridge University to develop nano polymer ceramics, and Professor Edmund Linfield at Leeds University to develop novel transdermal drug delivery systems, the signing represents another step forward for Ceram as they forge links with academia.

Tony Kinsella, CEO at Ceram, said: “We are extremely pleased to sign this MoU with such a respected research institure.

“I am sure that the collaboration will lead to some exciting opportunities for us both and that our clients will benefit from the pooling of our extensive knowledge, and our high-tech research facilities.

“Ceram is always looking to be at the forefront of innovation; collaboration, relationships and partnerships is the key to constantly moving forward.”

The partnership will build on Ceram and CRANN’s work on surface analysis and surface manipulation, and will enable them to work collaboratively on innovative research projects in the fields of healthcare, medical devices and electronics.
