Offshore industries celebrated at NOF annual dinner

The stars of the oil, gas, nuclear and offshore renewables industries were celebrated last week at the NOF Energy Annual Awards and Dinner.

The event at Hardwick Hall Sedgefield showcased the success stories of the year, and rewarded several of the most innovative companies and individuals.

George Rafferty, Chief Executive of NOF Energy, said: “The energy sector supply chain is a jewel in the crown of British industry and the UK economy.

“The NOF Energy Awards recognises the continuing excellence being demonstrated by companies within the supply chain and rightly celebrates their achievements.”

Big winners on the night were DUCO Ltd, who were named as Company of the Year. For the past 30 years the firm has supplied umbilical systems from its operation in Newcastle, and in the last 12 months has strengthened its position as a world leader in the industry.

IHC Engineering Business Ltd and Darchem Engineering LTD were also awarded the Innovation and Technology prize and Best International Business awards respectively.

The new talent award went to Steven Rooney from Heerema Hartlepool Ltd. Steven has progressed through the ranks at the firm, beginning as an apprentice before progressing to his current position as lead welding engineer at Heerema, where he is responsible for all welding engineering activities during the construction of large, high value structures for offshore industries.

400 people attended the Victorian-themed evening, which included performances by Chas Hodges, of ‘Chas n’ Dave’ fame, who performed some classic Victorian singalong tunes, and an after-dinner speech by comedian Brendan Healey.

George added: “The NOF Energy Annual Awards and Dinner is one of the most anticipated events in the energy sector calendar.

“Thanks to our headline sponsors; Wilton Group, Mech-Tool Engineering and Ward Hadaway, together with the support of our members, everyone had a wonderful evening celebrating our exceptional and innovative industry.”
