Josephine Nichol Paintings at Little Monk, Tynemouth Front Street. Ongoing until January 15.
Little Monk are displaying a collection of paintings by local artist Josephine Nichol, representing a departure from her usual work on Northumberland castles and cottages. The collection of oils on canvas and framed water colours is her “Jules” collection and depicts women of the era dressed in costumes embellished with gold and silver leaf. Josephine is a self taught artist, who has been painting for over 20 years.
Music
The Kentucky Cow Tippers and Friends - The Millstone, Gosforth. 7.30pm. Tickets: £5.
North East act play a mix of traditional and contemporary bluegrass, and have been compared to the likes of the Old Crow Medicine Show and Alison Krauss. Who knew that five teenagers from Low Fell could produce such an authentic sound?

Christmas Carols - Gibside Estate, Rowlands Gill. 7pm-9pm. Tickets: £10
Soak up the magical, candlelit atmosphere at Gibside while enjoying mince pies and mulled wine. Wrap up warm for traditional carols inside the fantastic acoustics of Gibside’s Palladian Chapel with full choir.
Theatre
Hansel and Gretel - Middlesbrough Town Hall. Saturday December 17, 1pm-3pm. Tickets: £22 family; £7 adult; £6 child.
The story of Hansel and Gretel is given a spit and polish, and made relevant to our consumerist times with this version of the classic tale. Hansel and Gretel are starving, but soon find themselves in a house that is literally good enough to eat. Mixing gothic undertones and hilarious gags, this is one for the family.

Las Acacias - Tyneside Cinema, Newcastle. Friday December 16, 8.40pm. Tickets:
Director Pablo Giorgelli offers up this very personal film about human connection. Las Acacias follows the relationship between long-distance trucker driver Rubén and single mother Jacinta, who meet as Rubén’s boss requests the two travel together from Paraguay to Buenos Aires. An intimate and tender film that marks Giorgelli’s directorial debut.
Food and Drink
Sunderland Farmers’ Market - Park Lane. Sunday December 18. All day.
High quality local produce with a seasonal angle. Farmers and small-scale producers come together to offer meat, poultry, fruit and veg, preserves and home-baked goods to the public.
