J & B waste deal has immediate impact
A PARTNERSHIP with a North East recycling firm is helping one of the world’s leading software companies in its aim to achieve zero waste to landfill.
J & B Recycling has been awarded the contract to manage all waste from Sage UK’s headquarters at North Park in Newcastle.
The deal was struck after staff at Sage UK inquired about better ways to recycle thousands of drinks cups used at the premises.
J & B Recycling, based in Hartlepool, now operates weekly collections of a variety of waste streams including comingled recyclables and general waste from Sage for processing, recovery and recycling at its Material Recycling Facility (MRF).
Vikki Jackson-Smith, managing director of J & B Recycling, said: “We are delighted to be working with Sage UK because they are such a respected company across the world.
“They have a clear commitment to reducing landfill and our processes ensure that target is met.”
J & B Recycling recycles approximately 100,000 tonnes of waste each year from household, commercial, industrial and construction sources.
The Sage UK contract is the latest in a series of waste management deals J & B has secured with companies in the north of the region including The Gate entertainment complex in Newcastle city centre and the Sir John Fitzgerald pub chain.
Jane Pettitt, Property & Service Contracts Coordinator at Sage UK, said: “J&B Recycling was a refreshing change from our other waste contractors as they came in with not only money saving ideas but they also re-energised us to think more widely on the approach to general waste and recycling.
“We have also reduced costs dramatically and that’s no mean feat when you consider we have over 1,600 people working here.”
David Moorhead, UK Environment and Sustainability Co-ordinator, added: “When we visited the J & B Recycling’s facility at Hartlepool, we were so impressed at the commitment and the level of services on offer we decided to award all of the waste contracts from North Park.
“We wanted to work with a company that could help us reduce our landfill and impact on the environment and with the support of the team at J & B Recycling, waste no longer goes directly to landfill and as much as possible is recycled . They have also supported our Sage Environmental Days by sending staff to help get the message across about the importance of recycling.”
