Team Tomorrow are really looking forward to exploring how North East Third Sector Organisation’s can benefit from the opportunities presented to the region by London 2012.
Chairing the day will be Pat Richardson- Partner, RichardsonHowarth. Pat worked as a business adviser in the public and third sector designing, delivering and managing a variety of enterprise support interventions throughout the UK and overseas.
Illustrating how social enterprises can get involved in London 2012 by helping larger organisations bid or supply Olympic contracts is Kate Welch OBE, Founder and Chief Executive of the Acumen Group. Championing social enterprise, Kate has a lot of experience of winning and securing big contracts with the public sector.
Giving us the scoop on what opportunities are currently available is Mike Hawkins -NE 2012 Regional Business Lead, One North East. Mike has been a key part of the regional 2012 delivery team since 2005, when London was awarded the honour of delivering the Olympic and Paralympic Games. He is also responsible for the regional management of the national CompeteFor procurement platform and the resources invested in 2012 business support - made available through One North East.
The following organisations have already had Olympic success and will be sharing their success stories at the event.
Catering 2 Order was recently awarded a contract by the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) to provide catering services to the Olympic construction site in east London. They were established in July 2007 by John Charles who set up the company after suffering a medical condition which left him visually impaired. The team of 15, many of whom are also visually impaired, currently service a portfolio of small public and private sector contracts in south east London.
Renaisi is part of the joint venture led by Balfour Beatty that has been selected by the Olympic Park Legacy Company (OPLC) to operate the ArcelorMittal Orbit and to provide Estates and Facilities Management (EFM) services for the venues, infrastructure and Parkland after the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Renaisi’s role in the joint venture will be to maximise the opportunities for local residents and businesses to secure jobs, apprenticeships and other opportunities in the Park and helping to deliver lasting sustainable benefits for local communities.
NE-Generation is the Legacy Trust UK funded regional programme for the North East, inspired by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. NE-Generation is working to improve how young people and the cultural sector in the North East work together; developing meaningful opportunities for young people in the North East to experience, participate in and generate cultural activity.
This event will mark a starting point for the North East Third Sector to really explore how they can make the best of the opportunities presented to the region by London 2012 and to collaborate with the Olympic delivery agencies and the public sector to deliver a valuable contribution and share the benefits of a successful 2012 Games and the associated legacy opportunities.
