Leazes Homes to redevelop Hillsview site

A local social housing provider has teamed up with Barratt Homes North East and IDPartnership Northern (IDP) architects to redevelop the site of a former primary school in Newcastle.

Leazes Homes will create 113 homes on the Hillsview site in Fawdon, of mixed size, type and tenure, designed to compliment and enhance existing housing in the local area. The project is also expected to create more than 200 jobs when work starts on the site later this year.

Barratt Homes and IDP are now working closely to develop plans for the site, which will ensure the design and layout of the development enhances the surrounding residential area. They also plan to use sustainable building methods and practices throughout the project.

Bill Midgley, Chair at Leazes Homes, said: “This is a fantastic project for the area. Not only will it provide safe, affordable homes for over 100 families, it will also have a positive impact on the surrounding community – driving sustainability, regeneration and employment opportunities for the North East.

“We have worked with both Barratt Homes and IDP on past projects and they always deliver to an exceptionally high standard – which is key when building modern and affordable homes on this scale.”

The site will include a mixture of 2,3 and 4 bedroom homes for sale and rent, incorporating green features such as solar panels to reduce energy demand. It will be complimented by extensive landscaping, cycle ways and a wildlife corridor.

Mike Roberts, Managing Director at Barratt North East, said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Leazes Homes on this important development, which will provide much-needed new family homes and deliver lasting benefits to the area.

“Barratt has a long and successful track record of urban regeneration in the North East and around 70 per cent of our homes are built on brownfield sites.”
