C2M makes breakthrough with multipurpose recycled material
C2M (UK) Ltd, the North East’s leading business support company for ‘Green’ Innovation, has been awarded €800K from the EU Eco Innovation fund to manufacture and launch a brand new material which promises to revolutionise the UK and European construction industry. C2M (UK) is currently in the process of raising an additional €1.4 million and will be investing over €2 million into the local economy. The company aim to use the funding to create up to 50 jobs in the region over the next 3 years.
The innovative Recycled Glass Hybrid (RGH) material, made from recycled waste, has been developed and tested by C2M and the funding has enabled the company to move into a 12,000 Sq ft, purpose built manufacturing facility in County Durham.
RGH is one of the greenest materials available and as it’s produced from 100% recycled waste it has a positive impact on the environment. Research suggests the material is over 40 times ‘greener’ than a comparable material currently used in the construction industry.
“This pioneering material is a breakthrough product that fulfils a market need which until now had no alternative solution,” said Gary Thompson, Managing Director, C2M (UK) Ltd, “We are delighted to receive the funding, it will allow us to build the first pre production site and we’re expecting the first RGH products to be manufactured before the end of 2012.”
The new facility will take around 10 months to commission and a wide variety of products will be manufactured using the technologically superior, internationally patented material to suit a range of market needs and industry sectors.
C2M (UK) Ltd was one of only five companies in the UK to receive financial support from the EU ECO fund and the company will use the award to commercialise the RGH material once the new manufacturing facility is commissioned.
Gary Thompson continued, “Due to the limitations of regional funding, we had to look further afield for grant support that would enable such an important project to become reality for C2M (UK) Ltd and enable the business to grow over the next five years.”
C2M would be interested to hear from people who want to be involved in, or can bring experience to, this exciting, innovative, project.
