Young Enterprise have announced the appointment of a new advisory board to support its work in the North East.

The board, which will be chaired by Alan Butland, managing director of training firm Promise Development Ltd, will now support the regional team by highlighting the importance of enterprise skills for both students and business.

Alan Butland said: “I became involved with Young Enterprise as a business adviser in London over five years ago; and since moving to Northumberland in October 2010 I have continued to work with Young Enterprise in the region, and was delighted to be invited to join the newly formed North East area board.

“At a regional level, much can be done to highlight the importance of enterprise skills and the board are really looking forward to working with the area manager Bev Brown and her team, to ensure the reach of Young Enterprise extends not only into schools and colleges but also into the wider business community.”

Victoria Thompson, Head of Communications at the North East of Business and Innovation Centre is Vice Chair of the board.

They will be joined by Justin Turner, founder of Carrot Media which he originally established as a Young Enterprise company, and Sue Kell, managing director of Oddco LTD and winner of the 2011 National Young Enterprise Business Adviser of the Year award.

Area Manager, Bev Brown added: “The North East area board is made up a wide range of business people and educators, and by tapping into their expertise I am confident that we will be able to reach a wider audience and ensure more young people can gain access to enterprise skills.”
