Initiative promotes law firm access for sporting organisations

Muckle LLP has announced its appointment to a new initiative that will make it easier for national governing bodies, sport and recreational organisations to access legal firms at fair rates.

The Legal Panel Framework has been established by Sport England, Sport Wales, UK Sport and the Sport Recreation Alliance.

It represents a first of its kind for the sector, hoping to deliver better value for money by aiding in identification and access to high quality legal firms.

The panel will provide services across 19 areas of law including child protection, governance, athlete selection, EU sports policy and major events.

Muckle was chosen on criteria such as price, value-added services, its understanding and experience of working with sport and recreation organisations and its commitment to training and development.

Tim Lamb, Chief Executive of the Sport and Recreation Alliance, said: ““The Legal Panel Framework demonstrates the benefits that can be achieved through collaboration, and we are looking forward to working with UK Sport, Sport England and Sport Wales as well as some of the best legal firms in the sector to deliver these benefits.”

“Sport and recreation bodies are very aware of the complex legal environment in which they operate and there is a real need for them to know which legal firms to turn to and for what issues, in order to get advice and support at a reasonable cost.”

John Devine, Head of Sports at Muckle LLP said: “We are delighted to have been chosen ahead of competition from throughout the UK.

“This is a prestigious appointment and helps to build on our reputation as one of the country’s leading law firms for all sporting bodies and organisations.

“This new initiative represents an exciting development in the regulatory framework and professional resource of national sporting organisations.

“This follows on being exclusively appointed six months ago to provide legal services to the 5,246 FA Charter Standard Clubs and 146 Leagues, as well as our continuous engagement with The Premier League.

“We look forward to providing strategic, commercial advice to the governing bodies in the years ahead.”
