Privatising the Post Office

Postal workers have pledged to fight against plans to privatise the Royal Mail, in a move which they believe would be disastrous.

The Government has expressed their intention to sell 90% of the Royal Mail by late 2013, which could raise up to £4 billion. However Unions believe that this could threaten traditional post offices and send prices skyrocketing

Despite these concerns, it seems that something needs to be done about the postal service. As of the 30th April, the price of 1st class stamps is set to rise to 60p, and the Royal Mail’s main letter service is losing money as people and business become increasingly reliant on electronic communications.
