Does the Government have a coherent strategy?

The Government’s failure to think strategically has created a “patch and mend” approach to policy making, says a group of MPs.

According to the Public Administration Committee, an absence of national strategy is causing mistakes such as cuts in the top rate of tax, the end of age-related tax allowances for pensioners and the handling of proposed strikes by fuel tank drivers.

The Committee also raised concerns that continued bad choices could create a vicious circle of weak leadership and bad policies, which will in turn weaken trust in the Coalition.

While there is no doubt that the Coalition has had a bad month, does that mean that we should write them off completely? Or should the Government be clearer in setting out their plans to create jobs and bring down the deficit?
