New Engineering Programme for NEETs launched

TTE and East Coast Training have joined forces to help North East NEETs take steps towards a career in engineering.

The new qualification in Building Services Engineering will enable young people to meet application standards for TTE’s four year apprenticeship framework, whilst also providing the opportunity to earn level 2 and level 3 and invaluable practical experience.

As part of the programme the first young spent time at TTE’s training centre in Middlesbrough, where they took part in a range of activities in both workshop and classroom environments. They also attended East Coast Training who supported them with their Literacy/Numeracy, Personal and Social Development and Employability Skills.

David Thompson, Partnership Manager at TTE, said: “The young people were really enthusiastic about the training and have shown a real interest in engineering.

“This programme provides the first step for young people in the NEET situation to choose engineering as a potential career path. We look forward to working with East Coast Training to help more young people.”

TTE receives hundreds of applications a year for its apprenticeship programmes, which are supported by businesses in the engineering, manufacturing, process and energy sectors. Sponsoring companies look for high quality, motivated individuals who, through their apprenticeship, can gain the necessary skills, qualifications and competencies to become part of their future workforces.

It currently has over 600 young people going through various stages of their pre-apprenticeship and Advanced Apprenticeship training and regularly welcomes visiting technicians from regions including, among others, West Africa and the Middle East.

East Coast Training is part of Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, Adult and Children Services Directorate and has been successfully working with young people aged 14-19 for over 10 years. It works across two sites in the Redcar & Cleveland area offering Level 1 and Entry level training at the De Brus Centre, Skelton and the Community Fire Station in Redcar.

Jo Brown from East Coast Training added: “Working in partnership with TTE has opened doors for young people that they previously thought would be closed off to them.

“The young people are a credit to East Coast Training and to themselves”.
