Young worker wage subsidy brought forward
The Deputy Prime Minister will today outline plans to bring forward the introduction of wage subsidies for firms hiring out of work 16-24 year olds in 20 deprived areas.
Nick Clegg will announce that payments will be given when young people have been out of work for six months instead of nine.
The initiative, is part of the Government’s £1 billion Youth Contract, which was announced in November to help tackle record levels of youth unemployment.
This funding has the potential to create around 400,000 work and training placements.
The £2,275 subsidy will cover six months of employment, and is the equivalent to half of the UK’s youth minimum wage.
