Dealing with the stress of a new job

Stress is a by product of mental activity; the mental activity that’s ensured you’ve done everything you need to get an interview, impress your prospective employers, be picked for the job, secure a pay rise and be ready to start on time!

Your mind has succeeded at all the tasks you set it so consciously recognise the fact and let it dump the stress it generated as a result of being successful.

The mind develops problems when overloaded; what overloads it is ongoing, negative stress generated by asking unanswerable questions such as, how long will I be in this job, will the company go bust, what will others think of me, will I live up to expectations and so on.

This kind of stress can lead to a great new job being put in jeopardy so maybe it’s time to address the unanswerable by adjusting your perspective! Face the facts: your employer isn’t stupid. They see people, interview people and recruit people as a matter of course.

If they didn’t think you could do the job why would they take the risk of employing you? After all, you’re an extremely expensive commodity to your employer who obviously believes you’re worth the investment.

They believe it because you performed well at your interview and gave them what they were looking for and your personality hasn’t changed. So breathe a sigh of relief and tell your mind the problems it’s been working on are finally solved.
